US Navy Picks Seven Firms for $2B Southeast IDIQ Construction Contract
U.S. Navy officials selected seven contractors to compete for nearly $2 billion in construction task orders for work across the Southeast, the Dept. of Defense announced June 5.Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded the $1.999-billion firm-fixed-price indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) multiple award construction contract (MACC) for various new construction, renovation, demolition and repair projects.
The award is the largest contracting tool in NAVFAC Southeast history, Capt. Miguel Dieguez, its commanding officer, said in a statement. The contract “will provide the essential capacity through a highly qualified cadre of contractors to deliver mission-critical infrastructure investments across the Southeast region for years to come,” he added.
The selected firms include BL Harbert International LLC, Gilbane Federal, Hensel Phelps, RQ Construction LLC, Sauer Construction LLC, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. and Walsh Federal LLC. Officials said 18 contractors initially submitted qualifications for the work.
The use of MACCs to pre-qualify contractors streamlines project management and ensures contractor reliability, said Lindsay Betteridge, supervisory contract specialist for NAVFAC Southeast, in a statement.
“MACCs save the command and the government time and resources,” Betteridge said.
Work under the contract is due to be completed by June 2030.
Guantanamo Bay Hospital Awarded
NAVFAC Southeast also awarded a separate $227.6-million fixed-price contract on June 3 to DPR-RQ Construction LLC for a project to build an ambulatory care center and dental clinic at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
DPR-RQ, a subsidiary of DPR Construction that focuses on technical work with the Defense Dept., was the sole bidder for the work, according to the Defense Dept. contract award notice.
With contract options that have not yet been exercised, the value would be increased to $237.1 million. NAVFAC is funding the work incrementally.
The planned complex would replace outdated facilities to provide medical services for military personnel and their families. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2029.
